Comparing Business Security Systems and Home Security Systems
In a perfect world we would be able to leave our doors unlocked and not worry about our safety or possessions. Unfortunately, in the real world, there are criminals. It is pathetic that those of us who have worked hard to build our homes and businesses have to take extra measures to protect them, but that is the reality of life. One way to protect your home or business is with quality home or business security systems. There are many different security systems on the market, and it is important to select the right system to meet your needs. Some systems are sold as a package which includes a set of predetermined component. Other security alarm systems are tailored to the specific needs of the home of business which they will be installed in.
Whether you are considering home or business security systems, it should have several basic components. Almost all security alarms are comprised of a system of wired circuits with switches at the doors and windows. If a door or window is opened it simply opens the circuit which alerts the control unit. The control unit alerts the siren, the monitoring agency, or both. The weakness in this basic setup is, of course, the glass windows. If you do not have burglar bars or security gates behind all of the glass doors and windows, you will also need glass breakers. Glass breakers are electronic devices in a security system which recognize the sound frequencies of breaking glass and alert the alarm system’s control unit.
There are many other optional components which may or may not suit the needs of your home or business security systems. First you need to decide exactly what you want to accomplish with your security system. If you are buying a security system for your home, your main objective is safety for yourself and the people you care about. You will also want to protect your sentimental belongings. Smoke detectors and carbon dioxide detectors should be installed.
If you are having business security systems installed, you should consult your insurance company. Many insurance companies will offer discounts if your security system meets certain standards. You may consider a silent alarm which will alert the police but not the intruders. This makes it more likely that an intruder will be caught. Video surveillance systems can be installed in homes, but they are costly and are much more practical in a business. Video systems can be monitored in house, recorded by a DVR, or monitored off-site via an internet connection. Off-site monitoring is very affordable and the criminal cannot destroy the evidence once he or she has been filmed.
Regardless of whether you are considering home or business security systems, you will need a battery backup system. This will allow your entire system to continue working in the event of a power outage. Without this feature a burglar could simply cut the power to your home or business and break in at any time without setting off the alarm. Another great feature is wireless monitoring. This uses a wireless signal like a cell phone to alert the monitoring company in the event that the phone lines are down. There are many options to consider if you are buying a home or business security system, but spending a small amount of time doing research can help you tailor your security system to your specific needs.
